WalkBop
Privacy Policy
Last updated November 5, 2026
WalkBop turns walking into a social race. This policy explains which information leaves your iPhone, why it is needed, who can see it, and how you can control or delete it.
Who is responsible
WalkBop is provided by Kenneth Marcel S De Geest, a self-employed developer (autónomo) based in Spain. For privacy questions or requests, email degeestkenneth@gmail.com.
Information WalkBop collects
Account and profile. WalkBop uses Sign in with Apple. The service receives an Apple-linked account identifier and may receive your name and email address, including an Apple private-relay address if you choose Hide My Email. WalkBop stores your display name, unique handle, internal account identifier, and character appearance.
Walking and race information. If you grant Apple Health access, WalkBop reads step-count samples needed to calculate your current weekly total. It sends the weekly total—not the individual Health samples—to its service so races, positions, results, and rewards work across participating accounts.
Social and gameplay information. WalkBop stores invitations, friendships, race participation and results, rank movement, item inventory, item use and effects, mystery-crate progress, and related game events.
Notifications. If you enable alerts, WalkBop stores a Firebase installation identifier, alert preferences, and delivery records needed for race, friend, item, crate, and result notifications. Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service use device and delivery information to route those alerts.
Diagnostics and app activity. WalkBop uses privacy-conscious analytics, crash reports, and performance measurements to understand which screens and features are used, diagnose failures, and improve reliability. This can include app interactions, app version, device and operating-system details, performance timing, and crash diagnostics. WalkBop does not send individual Health samples or the contents of support messages to analytics.
Support. If you email support, the address, message, attachments, and related delivery information are processed to respond to and manage the request.
Information kept on your iPhone
WalkBop keeps limited preferences and temporary state on the device, such as onboarding completion, the locally displayed character, handled race-result markers, staged invitation or notification routes, and local notification state. Apple Health retains the underlying Health records. WalkBop does not upload individual step samples or write Health data.
Deleting your WalkBop account clears WalkBop-controlled local account data. Removing the app also removes its ordinary local data, subject to Apple device-backup behavior. Apple Health records remain under your control in Apple Health.
How information is used
- Authenticate your account and keep it available across devices.
- Calculate weekly race standings, gaps, movement, history, and rewards.
- Connect friends, redeem invitations, and show the social race information participants expect.
- Operate items, crates, character presentation, safety reports, and blocking.
- Send the optional alerts you select and limit repetitive notifications.
- Protect accounts, prevent abuse, diagnose service failures, and provide support.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce applicable terms.
WalkBop does not sell personal information, display third-party advertising, or track people across other companies’ apps or websites. Health and walking information is not used for advertising, marketing, or data-broker purposes.
What friends can see
Signed-in walkers can use handles to find profiles. Friends and race participants can see information needed for the shared experience, including display name, handle, character, weekly race score, position, gaps, completed-race statistics, rank movement, and relevant item activity. WalkBop does not show your Apple email address or individual Health samples to other walkers.
Permissions and choices
Apple Health: access is requested through iOS and can be reviewed in iPhone Settings or Apple Health. Without access, WalkBop cannot use your real steps for the live walking race.
Notifications: alerts are optional. Choose alert categories inside WalkBop and change system permission in iPhone Settings.
Profile: edit your display name, handle, and character from the Account area.
Safety: report or block another walker from their profile. Blocking removes the connection and prevents new invitations between those accounts.
Account deletion: open You → Data & privacy → Delete WalkBop account. Deletion is permanent and removes the account and associated active WalkBop records. WalkBop also revokes the stored Sign in with Apple authorization when one is available. Sign in with Apple access can be reviewed in your Apple Account settings.
Service providers
Google Firebase provides account authentication, database hosting, server functions, app-installation and push-notification services, product analytics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring. WalkBop uses Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Installations, Cloud Messaging, Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring to operate and improve the service. Firebase processes WalkBop customer data on the developer’s instructions; WalkBop does not use these services for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Apple provides Sign in with Apple, HealthKit permission and data access, push-notification delivery, device services, and optional diagnostics made available through Apple.
GitHub Pages hosts this policy and may process normal website-delivery information such as IP address, browser details, requested pages, timestamps, and security logs. Google/Gmail and the sender’s email provider process support email.
These providers may process information outside Spain or the European Economic Area. Where required, transfers rely on applicable adequacy decisions or contractual safeguards. WalkBop does not authorize providers to use WalkBop customer data for their own advertising.
Legal bases
Where the GDPR or similar law applies, account, race, social, item, notification, and support information is processed as needed to provide the service or respond to your request. Health access and notifications depend on your device permission and consent where required. Limited security and operational processing is based on legitimate interests in keeping WalkBop safe and reliable. Records required by law are processed to meet legal obligations. WalkBop does not make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
Retention and deletion
Account and gameplay information is kept while your account is active and as needed to provide WalkBop. When you delete the account, the active authentication record, profile, connections, race records tied to the account, inventory, notification data, and other associated WalkBop records are removed or disassociated. Limited security logs and encrypted service backups may remain temporarily under provider retention schedules before being overwritten, and information may be retained where legally required.
Support correspondence is retained as reasonably needed to resolve the request, handle disputes, maintain security, and meet legal duties. Apple Health records, exported information, and device backups remain under the controls and retention practices of their respective providers or destinations.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information under the developer’s control, and to withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. Use the in-app controls or contact the email above. Proportionate identity verification may be required.
You may complain to your local data-protection authority. In Spain, this is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD).
Security and children
WalkBop uses access controls, authenticated requests, encrypted network connections, and database restrictions intended to protect account data. No service can guarantee absolute security.
WalkBop is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age that may apply where they live. If you believe a child has provided personal information without the required permission, contact the developer so it can be reviewed and removed.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when WalkBop’s features, providers, or legal requirements change. The revised date will appear at the top, and material changes will be brought to users’ attention where required.
